John Timperley
We proudly acknowledge our team work on several projects last year. John has been working
in Prague for more than decade and his overview and mastership has been appreciated by many
clients.
Recording and Mixing Engineer John Timperley has a vast experience of recording across a wide range
of music from Classical, Opera, Chamber Music, Light Orchestral to Big Band, Jazz and Easy Listening.
In the 1960s John trained at IBC in London, working primarily on classical recordings and the current
pop scene. After a move to Olympic Studios John returned to IBC and then in 1966 set up the recording
studios at CHAPPELL´S Bond Street where he was subsequently engaged as Manager and Chief Engineer.
Artists who John worked with include Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett and Shirley Bassey, as well as Jazz
musicians like Thelonius Monk, Earl Hines, Tedy Wilson, Ruby Braff, Count Basie, Buddy Rich and
Stephanie Grappelli.
In 1975 John set up and managed MOUNTAIN STUDIOS in Montreux, Switzerland where he recorded
albums with YES and Emerson, Lake & Palmer as well as recording the Montreux Jazz Festival.
On his return to Britain in 1977, John worked as a frelance engineer operating his own mobile unit
before setting up and managing ANGEL RECORDING STUDIOS in London. Here he revived his classical
music career working with renowned opera singers Jose Carreras, Agnes Baltza and Placido Domingo.
Since 1990 John has remained a sought-after freelance engineer working throughout Europe on mobile
recording sessions and from his own purpose-built Copthorne Studios.
