Svatopluk Cech studied at the Conservatory in Pilsen (Prof. Smidl) and in Prague (Prof. Rezac), and at the Academy
of Performing Arts in Prague (Prof. Pivonka). He was awarded prizes in several international
competitions, among others, the Prague Spring 1977. His artistic activity has been abundant, he is
a sought-after chamber and studio player, being a member of the Czech Wind Trio, the Czech Piano
Quintet, and the Czech Wind Sextet. He has made dozens of chamber and solo recordings. He worked
in Columbia for a short time. For thirty years, he has been a member of the Prague Symphony Orchestra
FOK, in which he plays the first bassoon and is the deputy of the wind group head.
